NAACP
STANDING COMMITTEES
Some of the
most important work of the NAACP is done by volunteers working on the
committees in the local branch.
Armed Services and Veterans’
Affairs Committee:
Studies conditions pertaining to veterans in the community, serves as
a source of information, and provides assistance in obtaining information.
Communications
Press and Publicity Committee:
Promote the NAACP to the community and to secures publicity for the
Branch. Encourages positive press and discourages, counteracts
and corrects negative or erroneous information in the press. Works to
ensure African American ownership / control of print and electronic
media. Monitors media / advertising performance to provide the National
office with research data. Promotes the ideal that all people have a
right have access to high quality and reasonably priced telecommunications
goods and services.
Community Coordination Committee:
Strengthens ties with like minded community organizations and enlists
their support in programs to insure the rights of minorities.
Economic Development Committee:
Fosters the spirit of entrepreneurship among African Americans, and
increases employment opportunities with private and public sectors
Education Committee:
Protects the rights of all children to have equal educational opportunities.
Finance Committee:
Cares for the financial operation of the Branch and establishes a sound
budget.
Freedom Fund Committee:
The fundraising arm of the local branch of the NAACP.
Health Committee:
Works to call attention to the many health issues facing African Americans
and other minorities including environmental racism and access to affordable
healthcare.
Housing Committee:
Fights for equal opportunity for all Americans to secure and enjoy the
affordable housing of their choice, and fights discriminatory lending
and rental practices.
Labor and Industry Committee:
Seeks ways to improve the economic status of minority groups and to
secure equal employment, on-the-job training, promotions, pay and seniority
for all African American and minority workers.
Legal Redress Committee:
Studies and plans action on all legal matters which threaten the security
of African American citizens. The litigation arm of this committee investigates
reported cases, supervises all litigation for the Branch and keeps the
National office and the Branch informed on its’ progress.
Membership Committee:
Acts as the primary source of community outreach for the local branch
by conducting annual membership campaigns and working throughout the
year to maintain and increase local membership.
Political Action Committee:
Protects political interests of African Americans and other minority
group citizens by distributing NON-PARTISAN information.
Religious Affairs Committee:
Maintains the historically strong bonds between religious organizations
and institutions and the NAACP.
Youth Work Committee:
Develops the leaders of the future by assisting youth councils and college
chapters in the achievement of NAACP goals.
Life Membership Committee:
Ensures the perpetuity of the organization by securing those interested
in NAACP life membership.
ACT-SO Committee:
Seeks to plan, coordinate and promote a successful, quality ACT-SO program.
Voter Empowerment Committee:
Works on voter registration, voter education and yearly get out the
vote events.
Women in the NAACP (WIN):
supports the on-going work of the NAACP through advocacy around critical
issues affecting women.
