Anita Fleming-Rife

Dr. Anita Fleming-Rife is the co-chair of the NAACP education committee.  She is a proud Iowan who has returned to her beloved home state after being away for 45 years.  She is a retired university professor and administrator who has served at several universities, among them: her alma mater, the University of Northern Colorado, Penn State and Clark Atlanta Universities.  In addition, she has headed up the United Nations’ public opinion polling program (New York) and served as public information officer for the United Nations Operation in Somalia (Mogadishu).  What puts a smile on her face these days is being able to affect the lives of Des Moines public school students—a district that provided her with the educational foundation to pursue her life’s purpose.  She wants this for all children and believes that the Des Moines branch of the NAACP will provide her with the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of children in the Des Moines metro area.
