Cory Royster

Cory Royster is a dedicated civic leader and community organizer serving on the Executive Committee of the NAACP Des Moines Branch, where he chairs the Civic Engagement Committee. In this role, he focuses on advancing voter education, increasing participation in local elections, and fostering meaningful dialogue on public policy and justice reform within underserved communities.

 

With over 12 years of experience at the Polk County Election Office—including 10 years as a Precinct Captain—Royster has played a pivotal role in ensuring fair and transparent elections. His responsibilities have included setting up polling places, verifying voter eligibility, and maintaining the integrity of the voting process. This long-standing service reflects his deep commitment to upholding democratic principles and empowering Iowa voters.

 

Royster is an active Prince Hall Mason and a member of North Star Lodge #2. He is also a Prince Hall Shriner, affiliated with Zeid Temple #90. He currently serves as the Right Worshipful Grand Treasurer for the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Iowa and the Illustrious Grand Treasurer for the Iowa Council of Deliberation, Scottish Rite Prince Hall Affiliation. These roles reflect his leadership, fiscal responsibility, and dedication to the principles of brotherhood and service.

 

In addition, Royster helped to found the Colonel Charles Young Gun Club of Des Moines, which focuses on responsible firearm education and advocacy within the Black community. He is the clubs current President.

 

With over six years of professional experience as an Advanced Certified Scrum Master, Royster applies systems thinking and agile principles to community organizing and strategic initiatives. He is known for building effective teams and partnerships that drive sustainable change.

 

Royster continues to foster strong relationships across Iowa with key partners including the Divine Nine, local churches, higher education institutions, and cultural heritage organizations.
