Freedom Fighters,
While the Des Moines Branch delegation enthusiastically represented our branch, state, and region... we are all admittedly pleased to see the final day arrive.
The day started with the Closing Plenary Session & National Townhall.
Panel 1 included a conversation with Jotaka Eaddy, President Derrick Johnson, and Nextdoor CEO Sarah Friar.
Panel 2 included a conversation with Rev. Mark Thompson, Professor Kimberle Crenshaw, Bishop Vashti McKenzie, and comedian Sheryl Underwood.
Panel 3 included a conversation with correspondent Sharon Epperson, Principle John Connaughton, Secretary Yvonne Hao, CEO John Rice, and President Derrick Johnson.
We also got to view and vote on the 2023 Cinematic Film Competition shorts.
Worthy by Amy Tiong & Payton Mack
The Son That Didn't Shine by Alana I. Smith & Clarke Phillips
The Paper Route by Tyla Barnes & Jeffery Jackson - THE WINNER!!
The evening ended with Spingarn Awards dinner. The Spingarn Medal is the highest honor of the NAACP. Since 1915, it has been awarded annually. This years winner was NAACP New York State Conference President Dr. Hazel N. Dukes.
We look forwarded to returning home soon!
Thriving Together!
