YASMINE ARRINGTON BROOKS

Founder and Executive Director, ScholarCHIPS, Inc.

Yasmine Arrington Brooks was born and raised in Washington, DC, and is the Founder and Executive Director of ScholarCHIPS, Inc., a nonprofit providing scholarships, mentoring, mental health support, technology, and a strong support network for children of incarcerated parents.

Growing up with an incarcerated father, Yasmine experienced firsthand the emotional and financial challenges these families face. While searching for college scholarships as a high school junior, she and her grandmother discovered there were few programs specifically supporting children of incarcerated parents. Yasmine decided to create one.

Since 2012, ScholarCHIPS has awarded more than $700,000 in scholarships to over 140 scholars, including 56 college graduates, while continuing to support students through college and into their careers.

Yasmine holds degrees from Elon University and Howard University School of Divinity and is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry at Wesley Theological Seminary. She was named a 2025 L’Oréal Paris Woman of Worth and a 2023 CNN Hero, and has been featured in national outlets including Essence, Vanity Fair, Vogue, and Black Enterprise. She is also an author, poet, speaker, producer, and social justice advocate who helps others turn pain into purpose.
