Be a Part of Our History: Paid Advisory Committee for the Citywide Historic Preservation Survey

The City of Des Moines is forming a Project Advisory Committee to help plan a community-led, citywide survey of the city's heritage assets, and residents are invited to apply.
This survey is about more than historic buildings and landscapes. It will record the traditions, stories, and cultural practices that matter to the people who live here. Whose history gets written down depends on who is in the room when the plan is made, and this is a chance to be in that room.
What to know
Paid position: committee members receive $50 per meeting, $150 total for three meetings. No specific qualifications are required. The city is looking for a mix of generations, occupations, neighborhoods, and ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
Applications are due Monday, November 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Apply here.
