If you know, you know.

As a community deeply rooted in advocacy and progress, we recognize the swearing-in of Dr. Skylar Mayberry-Mayes as a beacon of pride and commitment to the vision we hold dear for our children and our future.

During the ceremony, a profound sense of unity and purpose filled the room. Dr. Mayberry-Mayes, in his remarks, echoed the sentiment we hold in our hearts: "I am very excited to be here today... I know that Teree is looking down on all of us and would be extremely proud. Thank you so much, and I look forward to doing this with all of us, together."

Superintendent Dr. Ian Roberts recognized the critical juncture we stand at, reminding us that our children's futures are brighter with the selection of Dr. Mayberry-Mayes. He highlighted the shared history and commonality of purpose that have long guided our struggles and victories, evoking years that resonate with milestones in our history: 1906, 1909, and 1911. It was a reminder that our journey is woven with the threads of tenacity and the dreams of our forebears.

We stand in solidarity with Dr. Mayberry-Mayes, inspired by his dedication and anticipating the advancements he will champion for our students. This is more than a new chapter; it's a continuation of a narrative rich with achievements.

We encourage you to join us in this moment of pride and progress. Witness the pledge of excellence Dr. Mayberry-Mayes has made to our community by watching the ceremony, where we look ahead with hope and unwavering determination.

In the spirit of those who paved the way for us, we move forward, united and strong, as we celebrate this landmark moment of black excellence and educational promise. Victoria Henderson Weber, President NAACP Des Moines Branch
