September marks Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and the NAACP Des Moines Branch is calling on our community to take action — for our fathers, brothers, sons, and friends.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men in the United States. But for Black men, the statistics are even more alarming:
🧬 67% higher incidence rate
⚠️ More than twice as likely to die from prostate cancer compared to other groups
We can’t afford to stay silent and we won’t. This month, we’re asking every member of our NAACP family to take action in two powerful ways:
✊🏾 Join Us for the First-Ever Save the Homie Day
📍 Hope+Elim Church
🗓 Saturday, September 13 | ⏰ 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Save the Homies is a Black men’s health initiative that kicks off this weekend with an event centered around prostate cancer education, prevention, and connection.
At Save the Homie Day, you’ll:
✅ Learn how to get a FREE PSA test kit mailed directly to your door — with volunteers guiding you through the process
✅ Hear an inspiring message from Louis Fountain
✅ Access resources, support, and a community that cares
Bring your circle: a friend, brother, uncle, cousin, or neighbor. We’re showing up for one another.
